What's the difference between disc brake hub and V-shaped brake hub?
Disc brake hub and V-shaped brake hub are different in the following aspects:
Structural design:
Disc brake hub: the hub has a special part for installing disc brake disc, which is usually connected with disc brake disc by six nails or middle locks. The disc brake clamp is installed on the frame or front fork and connected to the brake handle through an oil pipe or a brake line. When the brake handle is operated, the piston in the clamp will push the brake disc to clamp the disc brake disc, so as to realize braking.
V-shaped brake hub: the hub itself has no special brake installation structure, and is mainly used in conjunction with rims with friction areas. The V brake clamp is installed on the frame or front fork through screws and other parts, and the brake line is connected to the brake handle. When the brake handle is pinched, the brake line drives the arm of the clamp, so that the brake block can hold the wheel tightly to generate braking force.
Braking performance:
Disc brake hub: the braking force is relatively strong, which can stop the wheels in a short time, especially suitable for emergency braking when riding at high speed and going downhill. The braking effect of the disc brake system is less affected by environmental factors, and it can still maintain good braking performance in rainy days, mud and other harsh conditions. In addition, the disc brake is more accurate, and the driver can control the braking force more finely to avoid wheel locking.
V-shaped brake hub: the braking effect is also obvious, which can meet the braking needs of daily riding on dry and flat roads. However, the braking force of V brake is weaker than that of disc brake, especially when braking continuously for a long time or driving at high speed, the braking effect may be reduced. Moreover, the brake block of V-brake rubs against the rim, and the braking performance will be greatly affected in wet or muddy environment, and even skidding may occur.
Maintenance:
Disc brake hub: The structure is complicated and the maintenance is relatively difficult. For example, the hydraulic disc brake system needs to regularly check the liquid level and quality of brake oil to prevent leakage of oil pipes; Disc brake discs and brake discs also need to be regularly inspected for wear and replaced in time. However, the parts of the disc brake system are relatively durable and do not need frequent maintenance under normal use.
V-shaped brake hub: simple structure, convenient maintenance and repair. Brake block is a wearing part, which needs regular inspection and replacement, but the replacement process is relatively simple. At the same time, the brake line of the V-brake system also needs to be checked and adjusted regularly to ensure the brake sensitivity. However, due to the direct friction between the brake block and the rim, it may cause certain wear and tear to the rim, so it is necessary to pay attention to the maintenance of the rim.
Weight and cost:
Disc brake hub: Generally speaking, the disc brake system includes hub, disc brake disc, clamp and other parts, and the overall weight is relatively heavy. Especially for some low-end disc brake products, in order to ensure strength, heavier materials may be used. The cost of disc brake system is high, including the price of parts and the cost of installation and debugging. The high-end disc brake system is expensive, but its performance is also better.
V-shaped brake hub: The V-shaped brake system is simple in structure, and the hub itself has no additional complicated structure, so it is relatively light in weight, which is attractive to cyclists who pursue vehicle lightweight. The cost of V-brake system is relatively low, both the price of parts and the cost of maintenance are relatively cheap, which is suitable for consumers with limited budget.
